I’m not convinced this is co-opting oppression but more drawing an allegory with regards to the way that marriage is used as a tool to determine the acceptable boundaries of social relationships.
I understand your point but using this as an allegory for homosexual marriage is erasing for black LGBT who are still confronted to racist boundaries of social relationships even within the white-led LGBT movement. Interracial unions within the LGBT community are still problematic.
Also, every single time white activists use black people to further their political interests, they are perpetuating racism! Intersectional does exist and racism is not dead! This is just another case of white people exploiting black people and it is scary how it comes naturally for people claiming to fight for equality. This is how we end up with disgusting shit like “Woman is the nigger of the world”. The white LGBT community has done NOTHING, I mean NOTHING against racism but Whitney wasn’t buried yet that they were already claiming she was bisexual despite the fact that she denied it time and time again.
