Alyena Mohummadally: I Am a Queer Muslim
Pakistani/Australian lawyer, Alyena Mohummadally took part in a session called ‘I am a Queer Muslim’ at the Seymour Centre as part of the Sydney Mardi Gras. She speaks with humour and warmth about the struggle in reconciling what she calls the ’ two identities’ of being gay and being Muslim.
Her spiritual life, her Pakistani family and her life with her female partner and their child are equally important to her. She has used her own experiences to set up an online support group for other Australian Muslims who might struggle with similar issues to her own. She is in conversation here with Sekneh Beckett
